How To: Take Great Photos Of Your Toddler

I try to take some 'proper camera' photos of G at least once a month. I really feel that I get something different when I follow her around with a lens rather than my iPhone, but the older she gets, the more difficult it becomes to capture natural moments. This weekend, I dressed her in a beautiful two piece from La Coqueta (it's this one!) and vintage Clarks shoes that were once mine (thanks Mum!) and got clicking. I'm pretty happy with the edit so I thought I'd share some quick-fire tricks to photograph a toddler!

Footwear: Mama Treads and Cosy Toddler Toes

We're still hoping to go skiing before the season is out so when Footway got in touch and asked if I'd like to collaborate with them I knew exactly what I'd be choosing to photograph my toddler wearing. I've had a crush on the brand Sorel since I got my first pair a few years ago and was thrilled for an excuse to buy my little friend a pair so that we can twin. When Tom saw them lined up in the hallway he felt just a little bit left out.

Toddler Life: Expectation VS Reality

I'm not sure why I haven't learnt by now, but the all consuming needs of my tiny toddler consistently takes me by surprise. I thought, and you'll laugh, that by fourteen months I'd have it all under control. I present to you my optimistic expectations and the not-awful-just-'different' reality...

Q&A: Pro Family Photographer Terri Pashley

Yes, a newborn family shoot captures that beautiful, intoxicating newness, and I treasure them, I really do, but nothing beats the characterful joy of capturing a one-year-old's first steps out in the wild. These images bring me unrivalled joy. Thrilled with the family shots she's taken for us in the past, I asked Terri of Terri Pashley photography to capture me and my girl as we hit the one year mark. She was in-fact thirteen-and-a-half months and just making those first wobbly independent strides when we got together to shoot in a woody nook near to my house. I'm so excited to share my favourites with you.

Review: Stair-gates And Beyond. Toddler Proofing The Home With Fred Safety

To be honest, the stair gate has been a long time coming. Trying to resist a house of bars meant that I spent a lot of my time kneeling at an ascending baby's rear end chiming 'careful', 'no', 'we don't climb the stairs'. It started surprisingly early, climbing came alongside crawling so, four months after the first of many climbs, exasperated and feeling that it wouldn't be long before my fears became a reality, I stumbled upon Fred safety's clear view stair gate on Instagram. What's more, they were asking for volunteers to try them out. I willingly obliged.
